A group, the New Ondo State Forum, NOSF, has condemned the assassination of Alaba Abbey, a campaign coordinator for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in Supare Akoko, by unidentified gunmen, calling on security agencies to fish out the killers.
Abbey, who served as a ward coordinator for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot-Soldiers, LACO-SF, was killed at his home in Supare Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government Area.
The deceased was the returning officer for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 10 in the recently concluded primary of the governing party.
In a statement by its Chairman and Secretary, Chief Gabriel Adebusuyi, and Ajayi Akinbobola, the group described the incident as not only barbaric, but also condemnable.
The statement reads: “We are pained as stakeholders in Ondo State that some people could resolve to take the life of another man like that. Without trying to preempt what the outcome of police investigation into the matter would be, we call for a thorough investigation and that the full weight of the law be brought on the perpetrators of such an act.
“Ondo State has been enjoying peace in all ramifications since His Excellency, Lucky Aiyedatiwa became the governor. He has been a great promoter and supporter of peace. That is why the recent governorship primary in the All Progressives Congress, APC, went without any rancour and the people have spoken and made their choice.
“We believe security agencies in the state have the support of the governor to fish out the killers of Alaba Excel Abbey wherever they are. Justice will surely be done in this circumstance. We sympathise with the family of the deceased.”
