The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board has announced that the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in 2024 will be free of charge for disabled individuals who wish to register.
The Registrar, of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Ishaq Oloyede, made this known during a media interactive session to herald the registration process for the 2024 UTME.
According to him, JAMB will issue for free application documents to all categories of Persons living with disability as a form of support.
He further disclosed that as part of measures to provide a level playing field for all candidates, audio books will now be provided for all blind candidates.
Oloyede explained that the suggestion for provision of audio books was made at that first National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria.
Continuing, he said it was a digital adaptation of the traditional reading book and will come in popular audio format such as MP3, WMV, and WMA and compatible with all devices that can stream audio records.
“This will help the blind candidates to easily understand the subject/text,” he added.
Oloyede further noted that diagrams will also be removed from blind candidates’ questions.
For the 2024 UTME, an e-copy of the reading text will also be provided free for all categories of candidates, the registrar also stated.
Registration for the 2024 UTME is to commence on January 15, at the cost of N6,200 for candidates who will not sit for the mock examination while those to sit for mock will pay N7,700 for the registration.
