The Ekiti House of Assembly has reinstated previously suspended chairmen of eight local government areas in the state.

The reinstated chairmen who were part of 16 suspended by the previous Assembly are those of Ijero, Moba, gbonyin, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ikole, Ekiti South West, Ekiti West and Ado local government councils.

Chairman of the public petitions committee of the House, Hon Olajide Adegoke while reading the resolution of the committee at plenary said the chairmen were reinstated after it was discovered that they got approval from the supervisory Ministry before expending ‘extrabudgetary’ funds.

The committee however resolved to leave other eight chairmen of Oye, Ise Orun , Ekiti East, Ikeere, Efon Alaaye, Ido- Osi, Ilejemeje and Emure suspended due to their seeming flagrant mismanagement of public funds without approval.

‘For example, the suspended Chairman of Oye local Government claimed in his submitted account of stewardship that he spent the sum of #8.2m on fumigation activities in the month of March, 2018. The financial report submitted by Ise Orun LG council stated that the sum of #7m was spent on desilting of drainages during months of February and March, 2018…’

He however said their reinstatement which followed a petition by Chairman of the Association of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria, ALGON, Dapo Olagunju was still subject to review pending conclusion of investigations into their management of funds.

The Speaker, Ekiti House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Funminiyi Afuye has promised to facilitate regular capacity trainings for lawmakers in the Assembly as well as Staff.

 The Speaker made this known when he received the Leadership of the Ekiti branch of the Nigerian Union of Journalists led by Chairman, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela who paid him a courtesy visit.

The Speaker while highlighting his long term relationship with Journalists in the state noted that he was pleased by the visit and was looking to consider proposals by the Union to train lawmakers and members of staff on media relations and handling interviews.

He however asked that Journalists, especially those covering the state house of Assembly be factual in their reportage to prevent any misconception by the public.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Ojomoyela thanked the Speaker for appointing a professional and former Chairman of the Union, Akogun Tai Oguntayo as his Media Adviser and promised to continue to support the third arm of Government in addressing the desires of the masses.
