Ado-Ekiti landlords protest against BEDC

House owners in Ado, Ekiti state capital under the auspices of landlords’ and landladies’ electricity consumers association today protested against a purported extortion by the Benin Electricity Distributing Company (BEDC).

The protesters are alleging outrageous billings and deliberate hoarding of prepaid meters by the distributing company.

Speaking with journalists after the protest march from Fajuyi through Okeyinmi and terminated at Ajilosun in front of BEDC office, Chairman of the association, Dr Ibukun Ogundipe threatened legal action if their demands including immediate installation of pre-paid meters for consumers, stopping of outrageous billings amongst others are not met.

Meanwhile, the Public Relation Officer for BEDC, Ondo and Ekiti, Kayode Brown refuted the allegation of extortion as a result of outrageous bills, insisting that the issue of charges is regulated by the federal government through the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission.

He maintained that modalities are already in place to ensure free distribution of prepaid meters as directed by the federal government.
